Embark on a thrilling journey from Funchal to the renowned village of Curral das Freiras, our first scenic stop. We then trace our steps back to Funchal before ascending to Estreito de Camara de Lobos, the heart of Madeira wine country.
The adventure continues as we climb to a dizzying 1000 meters, unveiling panoramic views of the central mountain range and Curral das Freiras. A brief off-road detour leads us to a quaint bar, renowned for its refreshing poncha.
Our journey offers sweeping views of Funchal, the picturesque vineyards, and the Paul da Serra. The grand finale awaits at Cabo Girão, Europe’s highest cape, standing majestically at 580 meters. Here, you’ll witness the sea’s vast expanse from a glass platform, before rounding off the trip at Camara de Lobos, a famous fishing town known for its black swordfish, and then returning to Funchal.
Setting out from Funchal, our journey begins with a brief visit to the charming village of Santa Cruz. We then venture to Porto da Cruz for a memorable visit to the Sugarcane Mill and an opportunity to sample the famed regional “Poncha” cocktail, a delightful blend of sugarcane brandy.
Our adventure continues through the verdant Laurissilva towards Santana, punctuated by a scenic detour to the parishes of Ilha and S. Jorge. Experience the lush beauty of the region from the breathtaking Boca das Voltas viewpoint.
We then coast towards the seaside gem of Arco de S. Jorge for a leisurely lunch. The journey resumes along the picturesque north coast, stopping at quintessential towns like Boaventura, Ponta Delgada, and São Vicente. Here, we pause at Quinta do Barbusano for a tour of the vineyard and a tantalizing wine tasting of red, white, and rosé wines.
Set off from Funchal towards the splendid vantage point of Miradouro do Miranda, offering panoramic views over Funchal Bay. Our journey continues up old pathways and off-road trails to Poiso, before reaching the lofty Pico do Arieiro, where we pause to soak up the vistas.
We then descend to Ribeiro Frio and embark on a scenic 40-minute walk to the Balcões. From there, we traverse off-road tracks through Lombo Galego, Cova da Roda, and Pico das Pedras before reaching Santana. Here, you’ll admire traditional houses, followed by an optional lunch stop at Quinta do Furão.
Post-lunch, we venture to Porto da Cruz for a taste of local rum and poncha. Our journey concludes with a serene stop at Ponta de S. Lourenço before returning to Funchal.
