Maroços: Your adventure starts in the quaint village of Maroços, often referred to as the “smiling land,” due to its friendly inhabitants and the stunning sea views that will accompany you throughout the trail. The warm, welcoming atmosphere sets the tone for the rest of your unforgettable journey. One of the distinguishing features of this walk is the delightful levada path – the ancient irrigation channels synonymous with Madeira. The levada you will follow meanders through lush landscapes, rolling fields, and endemic flora, offering a serene walking experience unlike any other.
Terraced Fields: As you make your way along the trail, you’ll pass through flourishing terraced fields and farmlands, rich with local produce including bananas, sugarcane, and a variety of vegetables. These are the backbone of Madeira’s economy, offering you a first-hand insight into the island’s agricultural practices. The natural beauty of the trail is truly remarkable, with spectacular views of the coast, a plethora of colorful flowers, and the fragrant scent of eucalyptus trees, filling your senses with the intoxicating essence of the island.
Mimosas Valley: But what makes this walk truly unique is the mesmerizing Vale das Mimosas – the Valley of the Mimosa Trees. This breathtaking segment of the trail boasts hundreds of these stunning trees, blossoming with vibrant yellow flowers. During spring, the entire valley is aglow with a golden hue, creating a sight so spectacular that it feels almost surreal.
