Monte & Botanical Gardens

Monte: Our expedition begins in Monte, a historical parish known for its beautiful church and mesmerizing gardens. Here, you’ll visit the “Our Lady of Monte Church”, a significant religious site and the final resting place of Charles I of Austria. Its twin towers and hilltop location offer stunning views over Funchal. Wander the surrounding gardens and appreciate the tranquility and diversity of the local flora. Also, don’t miss the opportunity to experience the famous Monte toboggan ride (*Toboggan ride fee not included), a unique and exhilarating mode of transport down the steep hill towards Funchal. (Please note, the Monte Palace Tropical Garden is not included in this tour.)

Botanical Gardens: Next, we’ll take you to the renowned Botanical Gardens. Located on the sun-drenched slopes of Funchal, these gardens showcase over 2000 exotic plants from all corners of the world. Here, you can admire the meticulously designed themed gardens, from the vibrant color-coded succulent garden to the aromatic rose garden. Don’t forget to visit the lily ponds, home to tranquil koi fish and charming ducks. You’ll also find an area dedicated to Madeiran indigenous plants, providing a comprehensive look at the island’s unique biodiversity. The Botanical Gardens also offer a fantastic viewpoint where you can enjoy panoramic views over Funchal.
