Serra d’Água Valley: Your adventure begins in the tranquil setting of Serra d’Água valley, nestled between the imposing mountains of the central Madeira. Here, you are immediately greeted with a panorama that is as breath-taking as it is diverse, with verdant slopes, dramatic peaks, and the sparkling ribeiras (streams), setting a captivating backdrop for your trek.
Naturelife: As you start on the trail, you’ll be guided by the babbling waterways, the island’s lifeline, the Levadas. These historical irrigation channels provide a serene rhythm to your journey while leading you through Madeira’s exquisite flora and fauna. One of the major attractions of this walk is the Levada do Norte, one of the most extensive and significant levadas on the island, which you’ll have the pleasure to follow.
Unique Flora and Fauna: As you delve deeper into the valley, the trail takes you through lush forests, offering a delightful showcase of Madeira’s native species. Witness the laurel trees, ferns, and a variety of endemic plants that infuse the air with fresh, earthy scents. If you need to cancel your reservation, a refund will only be provided if the cancellation is made by 4:00 PM the day before the scheduled tour/walk.
Please ensure you come prepared with suitable walking shoes or boots and a warm coat, especially if temperatures are low in the mountains.
For full-day walks, please bring a picnic and water with you as they will not be provided by Madeira Sunrise Tours.
